POLITICO Trump is exploring a plan to make his own website a template for a new site, a move that would be the most ambitious move yet by a sitting president in his first 100 days in office.
Trump has so far focused on his own personal branding and messaging to take on the challenges of his administration.
But he is considering how to replace much of that branding with a template that could include images, text, video, a logo and even images of the Oval Office and the White House.
The White House press office said Thursday that the president is exploring the idea of creating a “template for the president” that could be used by a small number of people.
The announcement by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, a former chief executive of AOL, came a day after The Washington Post reported that Trump was considering replacing his own site with a site that would have the president’s name and logo but none of his own content.
The new site would have a similar structure to his existing website but with less of his signature content, including the White Houses daily briefing and news conferences.
“President Trump has spoken publicly for many months that he is open to having his own unique website and that he would like to see his name appear on it, ” Kelly said Thursday.
“There are a number of options that we are exploring that we feel are the best for the country, the president, and the American people.”
The new website could be the largest in the history of the Whitehouse, according to the Post.
Kelly did not provide specifics, but White House officials have said the new site could include video clips of Trump speaking to reporters, images of him in the Oval and other Trump-related content.
It could also include video of the president traveling the country with other Cabinet members, or even a photo of him meeting with a child.
A White House official told POLITICO that Kelly is also considering using the new template to include an image of Trump with a message from the president about the Affordable Care Act.
The Trump administration has struggled to build a website that is easy to navigate for its own staff, and many of its employees have struggled to find and use the templates that come with the site.
Kelly also said he is exploring whether the new website can be made available on mobile devices and if it could be easily customized.
